Reports To: Supervisor, K-9 Unit
Summary
This position is responsible for duties as they relate to the safety and security of AiG and Creation Museum guests, staff, volunteers, and property. This includes, but is not limited to all the duties regularly assigned to Security Officers, such as standing post as assigned, patrolling exhibit galleries and building exterior, assisting in crowd control and guest relations, responding to alarms and emergencies as assigned. This is an armed position and has the added and primary responsibility of being a K-9 Officer/handler and all the training and responsibilities that come with the position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Must be able to care for and work with assigned working dogs, which includes but is not limited to grooming, feeding, exercising and kennel cleaning.
- Must be alert at all times while standing post or performing patrol activities.
- Report any situation that requires service to the museum that may affect the guest experience.
- Must enforce organization and museum policies and procedures as they relate to safety, security and fire safety.
- Report any situation that requires service to the museum that may affect the guest experience.
- Respond to any emergency situation.
- Document unusual or reported incidents.
- Assist in guest relation functions.
- Performs other supervisor duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma required (Associate or Bachelor’s degree a plus).
- Five year’s security experience, preferably in a cultural property setting or relevant law enforcement and/or military experience.
- Knowledge and/or experience working with dogs in a police, security or military setting is preferred.

- Must be able to pass (initially and on-going) fitness for duty standards.
- Must be able to pass (initially and on-going) firearms qualification.
- Must be able to attend and pass the K-9 training certification course.
